Dans van Ali-Zadeh - Amsterdam Sinfonietta

  • Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ 1 Piet Heinkade Amsterdam, NH, 1019 BR Netherlands (map)

In Dance of Ali-Zadeh, Amsterdam Sinfonietta brings together folk music from the Caucasus. The rich, deep-rooted dance tradition is still thriving in Azerbaijani society.

Ali-Zadehs Reqs reflects this lively tradition. In her brand new cello concerto, she lets cellist Kian Soltani shine. The 10th-century Havoun Havoun by Armenian monk, poet, and theologian Narekatsi is about the resurrection of Christ. Many of the thousands of Armenian folk songs collected and published by Komitas were lost during the Armenian genocide. Chinar es is one of his surviving traditionals.

Dutch cello talent of Georgian origin Ketevan Roinishvili plays folk music from Georgia. For the virtuoso Gossamer Road, Florian Magnus Maier was inspired by flamenco and Persian music in addition to Georgian music.

Nicolas Altstaedt performs the cello concerto composed for him by Turkish pianist and composer Fazıl Say together with percussionist DOMNIQ.
